G-8 nations going copyright crazy

Came across this news Calgary Herald today and just had to tell the rest of you about it. The G-8 nations are apparently going completely copyright crazy with a new aggreement that could be raised at their july meeting in Tokyo.

The aggreement that would deal with copyright infringement basically states that when travelling with your laptop, iPod or any other electrical storage facility, you can risk having it checked by ‘copyright police‘ when entering another country. This will change international copyright law by making the information stored on an iPod or a laptop illegal outside the country of origin.

What this means for us is that all content on an iPod, a laptop, or even a mobile phone could risk being checked at airport when entering a country, and should you have copyright infringing material you would get fined. The aggrement also suggest that security personell could be allowed to search your device without you having a lawyer present.

First of all, i seriously hope this is a joke as it seems to whacky even for Hollywood loggyists to have come up with. Should it all be true though it makes me wonder what they are thinking, if they are thinking at all.

This would be a complete infringement of human privacy rights in my opinion, as they would be able to search through all your information without due cause, not to mention that for businesses it could seriously affect classified information and breaching company client confidentiality.

Should those idiot politicians and the Hollywood lobbyist actually get anywhere with this i would suggest that we all boycot content providers in a massive world wide protest, then we could see what happened to their profits. I just can’t get over how stupid this proposal is… there seriously are some idiots out there!
