Apple talking lower prices on iPod
By admin • Jul 22nd, 2008 • Category: Apple iPod, iPodFollowing Apples strong third quarter results announced earlier, what a lot of people has been talking about is Apple downgrading their gross margin predictions for the year, which some see as a sign of the iPod becoming cheaper in the near future (source: ZDnet blog).
Apple is known for being slightly conservative with their predictions after delivering strong results, but they are probably also looking at playing a numbers game, especially on the notebook side, but also with the iPod. This means that prices will come down to drive further sales and market penetration.
According to the ZDNet article, Apple CFO Oppenheimer said that they have to plan for a future product transition that he could not disclose any further information about at this stage. It is however expected that he might be talking about new portables, cheaper macbooks, and new and less expensive iPods with touch navigation, perhaps not unlike our post on the next generation iPod, and hopefully fulfill some of our wishes for a next generation iPod Touch.
We earlier also wrote about stock shortage of the iPod Touch, another sign that a new iPod might be on the way, usually also followed by price cuts on other iPod models.
