While we wait to find out exactly what the features of the 4th generation iPod Touch 4 might be, the hottest rumours online at the moment involves gadgets that will allow you to turn your iPod Touch into an iPhone.
Savvy iPod Touch owners already know that they can make and receive calls on the iPod Touch as long as they use a VoIP app such as Skype App, and are connected to a WiFi network, and have a headset with mic connected to their iPod Touch. Even though there are loads of WiFi hotspots around, it is not reliable enough to get a really good use out of (plus the fact you have to pay for WiFi access and to make calls to phones over VoIP).
The Yosion Technology Apple Peel 520 is the rumoured gadget that will basically allow you to use a normal SIM card with your iPod Touch. From the looks of things in this video of the Apple Peel 520, it is a combination of a case, craddle, and a battery pack. Rumour has it the battery life on talk time is about 4.5 hours, and by dropping in a SIM card you can take and make calls, and send text messages, just like you could on an iPhone.
Of course, this is all rumours at this stage as there are limited information available about the product. Likely you would have to jailbreak your iPod Touch to make it work though.
On a similar note, FCC documents have revealed a new EV-DO device headed to Sprint in the US. The ZTE Peel looks to be a carriage sled for a device like the iPod Touch. The EV-DO device specially designed for WiFi hotspot over a 3G network would allow the iPod Touch for example to connect to the internet even when not in a normal WiFi coverage area.
It looks like there are some potentially interesting gadgets coming onto the market in the near future. As an iPod Touch owner, would any of these gadgets be of interest to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
