There’s already some great AirPlay speakers in the market, but that does not mean there’s no room for more quality speakers. Wireless speakers was once again a hot ticket at CES 2014 in early January, although more bluetooth based ones than AirPlay speakers. But one AirPlay speaker to look out for in 2014 is the multi-functional Dream Audio Dream One.
One thing we learned from CES this year is that wireless speakers going forward will be more focused on delivering high res audio streaming, and they will support a wider range of devices than just the Apple ones. As I talked about in my recent post about the death of the speaker dock, globally, android based devices by far outnumber Apple devices, and increasingly wireless speakers need to take that into consideration. The Dream Audio Dream One wireless speaker is among the new generation that looks to be cross device functional as it supports a wide range of streaming options, including AirPlay, Bluetooth, AptX, and DLNA.
It’s not only the technology support that is a bit futuristic, but also the design of the Dream One, and its proprietary ‘Sound Array Module’ that is said to disperse sound evenly around the room. Through the associated Dream app, the speaker will send out a test tone to calibrate itself based on the room it’s in. For those looking for a more ‘true’ stereo experience you can also pair two of the Dream One speakers together.
Inside the Dream Audio Dream One there’s a driver set up that includes 2-inch aluminum cone, a 4-inch paper cone subwoofer, and a 5-inch. When it becomes available sometime in Q3 this year it will set you back around $599 (UK price to be confirmed).
