Creative D5 Air set to join AirPlay speaker market

Creative has recently announced the addition of an AirPlay speaker to their ZiiSound wireless speaker range. The Creative D5 Air builds further on their popular ZiiSound D5 (bluetooth) and D5X (AptX) adding AirPlay streaming to the arsenal.

Creative D5 Air

AirPlay speakers are slowly but surely starting to become mainstream, and more affordable, so we are pleased to see Creative bringing their expertise to the AirPlay market as well. Hopefully the D5 Air will build further on the strong qualities of their bluetooth based models, with the improved audio streaming that comes with AirPlay compared to bluetooth.

Look wise the D5 Air has roughly the same design as its bluetooth based siblings, with the addition of a 2.4-inch color LCD screen that displays audio track and album information amongst other. At the moment it does not look like the Creative D5 Air will have AirPlay Direct, but they are providing an EasyConnect app that takes the wireless setting from your iOS device and applies it automatically to the speaker for easy set up.

Besides AirPlay streaming, the D5 Air also comes with a physical docking station for iPod and iOS devices, although it looks like it is the old 30-pin docking station, so not compatible with the new Lightning Connector found on all new iOS devices, including iPhone 5, iPad Mini and the new 5th generation iPod Touch. AirPlay streaming should keep you covered, but alternatively you can get a Lightning to 30-pin adapter.

We will update with price and UK release information of the Creative D5 Air when available.
