Bowers & Wilkins A5 Airplay speaker first impression

Bowers & Wilkins A5 Airplay speaker

The smaller of the new A-range wireless AirPlay speakers from Bowers & Wilkins, the A5 is still packed with the same high quality components and finish that you expect from Bowers & Wilkins.

Like the A7, the smaller sibling has the same understated design that will fit in nicely in most settings and spaces, finished in black mesh and brushed metal outside the glass filed ABS casing. Leaving most surfaces unspoiled, the necessary connectors are found at the back of the system, next to the Flowport that helps ensure a good bass sound from this relatively small system. In terms of connectors, the A5 includes Wi-Fi and alternative Ethernet port, as well as a 3.5mm line-in for connecting audio sources that does not support Airplay streaming.

Behind the black mesh and brushed metal you find the high quality components that you expect from Bowers & Wilkins. The A5 dual 4-inch mid and low end drivers, and dual 1-inch Nautilus tube aluminium tweeters, offering up a total power output at 80W (2x20W, 2x20W). To ensure the best possible sound, the A5 features 24bit audiophile DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), allowing for a more natural sound. If you buy more than one A5 you can also set them up for a multiroom system.

I hope to be back with a hands on review in the near future.
