Bose goes Lightning with SoundDock Series III

Bose SoundDock III

Bose has announced the arrival of their all new SoundDock Series III which features Lightning dock support for the iPhone 5 and the new iPod Touch 7th generation.

Bose SoundDock III

Their latest SoundDock has the same design as its predecessors, but is made specifically for the new generation Apple iOS devices, although it does not support docking the iPad. Not sure why that is, but it could be down the relative size of the speaker dock itself, and the somewhat more fragile size of the new Lightning connector compared to the old 30-pin solution.

In addition to Lightning Dock it also features the standard 3.5mm line in for connecting other devices, but there seems to be no Bluetooth or AirPlay connectivity, which is a shame. Interesting though is that Bose seems to try and keep the price point relatively low, as the SoundDock III is currently listed at under £200. Given the performance of recent Bose speaker docks, i would expect the audio quality to be good on this system, but will confirm this once had a chance to play with it.
