Beyond the new iPhone: the significance of October

While the world seem to await the next iPhone, whether it is a new designed iPhone 5 or the upgraded iPhone 4S, October has a deeper significance to us as iPhone owners than just a new handset. October is when all the new stuff arrives in preparation for Christmas season.

While Tuesday the 4th October is “Let’s talk iPhone” day, which will likely cover off the new iPhone, but also the new features, including the rumored Assistant voice control alongside iOS 5 and the iCloud. All features designed to make the user experience for iPhone owners even better. And while that will be the majority of the focus of the coming media event, we can’t forget about the iPod line up either, which will likely give us only minor upgrades (an iPod Touch 5 is still a question mark), but possible mark the end of the iPod Classic era after 10 years of success.

October about more than just the next iPhone

If we look beyond 4th October though, and think about the accessory market for a bit, here are some of the things we have to look forward to.

Rise of the AirPlay speakers

A year after Apple first announced the Apple AirPlay feature for streaming media from your iOS device to compatible systems, October represents the month when the selection of AirPlay speakers in the market makes a jump. We can look forward to some potential great new AirPlay speaker additions from the likes of Philips, Loewe, Pioneer, and a few more, all aiming to bring their own new flare to the iOS compatible sound market. You can find an overview of current of coming AirPlay speakers right here. Personally i got my eyes on the Libratone Live and the Loewe Air Speaker.

Headphones are hotting up

Some stylish headphones are likely going to be on the wishlist of many iOS device owners in the coming months as we are seeing increasing amounts of new celebrity/designer inspired headphones coming onto the market. Perhaps the most famous of them all are the Beats by Dr.Dre range of headphones, combining quality audio with a desirable design, carving out what seems to be a very lucrative niche in the growing headphone market.
