Best Buy UK is starting their Closing Down sale today, Monday 28th November, perhaps hoping to get as much as possible out of the closing of their stores as Christmas shopping is about to reach its frenzy.
When Best Buy first established themselves here in the UK we all hoped that it would bring increasing competition and better offers to the market, but the tough financial times have hit the electronic retailers hard (with the exception of Apple), and Best Buy is therefore now holding their closing down sale for their stores, and matching the offer online it looks like.
For us as consumers however there is a sliver lining. If Best Buy UK starts heavy discounting online as well, we are likely to see other retailers respond, given that this is the high-season for shopping. At the moment it looks like their discounts are in the range between 10% and 25% (50% off CD’s, DVD and blue ray) using the promotion code BBY at checkout.
Based on reports so far we don’t know if the discounts apply to all their stock or if selected product categories (read Apple) are excluded. I have done a bit of testing on their website, and many products can not be found browsing the store, or are not available to purchase, including many Apple products and high-end audio accessories, including Beats by Dr.Dre and Bowers & Wilkins products. I was however able to find the iPod Nano after some digging, and a range of headphones, including Grado and Denon, as well as iPod speaker docks, including the popular Sony RDPX60iP. On the 3 products added to my test basket i was able to get a 21% discount.
It also remains to be seen if Best Buy UK will continue to operate as a pure online retailer following the closing down sale of their UK stores.
If you have grabbed an Apple or accessories related bargain at Best Buy today, please share by leaving a comment below. If not, head over to Best Buy UK and see if you can grab yourself a deal with promo code BBY.
