Belkin is venturing into the iPad speaker dock market at CES 2013 with a brand new product in the Belkin Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater dock, which combines an iPad stand with integrated home theatre enhanced sound.
The Belkin Thunderstorm takes advantage of the Apple Smartcover technology, while also integrating front-facing full range drivers and integrated air channels to provide an enhanced sound experience compared to using only the integrated speakers in the iPad itself. For the audio element Belkin has worked with Audifi , a specialist in mobile audio engineering, to ensure ‘project cinematic-quality sound’ is achieved. The case/stand itself also supports multiple viewing angles.
The first version of the Belkin Thunderstorm to hit the market will be a 30-pin version priced at about £180, whilst a Lightning Connector model is expected out later this year.
It will be interesting to see what the performance of the Thunderstorm dock is like, as the stand/case itself adds quite a bit of bulk to the iPad, and the price point seems a bit high.
