Bang & Olufsen extends Play range with H6 and H3 headphones

The B&O Play range are starting to feature some great products, and the latest addition of the H6 headphones and H3 earphones aims to gain the company some momentum in the high-end headphone market.

New Bang & Olufsen headphones H3 and H6

With the new headphones Bang & Olufsen have collaborated with Danish designer Jakob Wagner to ensure that the new products have both iconic designs and functionality. The H3 earphones feature an aluminium housing for the 10.8mm drivers, and 23 ventilation holes drilled in the housing to create a more open soundstage. When launched they will be available in silver, red, or black finish, featuring cable with iOS friendly 3 button control.

The on-ear H6 headphones are finished in classic B&O anodised aluminium, with leather headband and New Zealand lambskin earpads. Apparently B&O went with NZ leather as the lambs there are not exposed to barbed wire. An extensive process was undertaken to source the right material, exposing the leather to a variety of substances, from water to sweat, to see how it would age with wear and time. In other words, these headphones are designed to age with you. The earpads use memory foam to give that individual shape. Performance wise then B&O H6 features 40mm drivers, and comes with both a 3-button cable and a single button cable. There are inputs on both left and right earpad, so you could daisy-chain a second pair of headphones from the spare socket if you want to share your tunes.

Personally I love the look of the H6 headphones, especially the ones with a natural finish (they are also available in black). Hopefully they will live up to the high quality B&O sound as well.

During the launch of the new headphones in London, Bang & Olufsen CEO Tue Mantoni was quoted saying that these new headphones are; “aimed at people who don’t want to listen to music using little white earbuds”. That is also reflected in the price range of these new headphones, with the H3 earphones priced around £199 and the H6 headphones at £329. Both headphones are expected to be released sometime in May.
