With their new PLAY brand, Danish audio company Bang & Olufsen is showing that they are taking the Apple accessory market seriously, including Apple AirPlay technology as they announce the arrival of their B&O BeoPlay A8 speaker dock, their second AirPlay speaker.
For those of you familiar with Bang & Olufsen you might recognize the BeoPlay A8, as it is basically an AirPlay version of their BeoSound 8 speaker dock that has been on the market for over a year now. B&O first introduced AirPlay streaming for their BeoLit 12 portable speaker, that just recently came onto the UK market, so for the company to bring out yet another AirPlay speaker this soon bodes well for the future.
The design and specifications of the BeoPlay A8 match those of the BeoSound 8, with the addition of AirPlay streaming. That means that you still get a pair of 5-inch woofers (70W) and 3/4-inch tweeters (35W each) that are powered by high performance class D amplifiers, all wrapped into a design that you have come to expect from an audio company like Bang & Olufsen.
For those that still want to able to dock their device with the speakers, the BeoPlay A8 still comes with the docking station that supports docking of both iPhone, iPod, and iPad models. They have also built in functionality for enhancing the listening experience based on placement of the BeoPlay A8 speaker dock through pre-programmed modes, including wall, corner or freestanding mode. If you don’t own an iOS device but love this speaker dock, then you are in luck, as the website specifies that Bluetooth is available, possibly through a line-in adapter, for wireless streaming as well.
