With the BeoLit 12 Airplay speaker famous Danish audio manufacturer Bang & Olufsen have entered the AirPlay market, and they have done so with an impressive system that is splitting opinion when it comes to its design.
Known for their very stylish designer high-end audio and visual systems, it might have taken B&O a while to create systems for iOS devices, but when they create something it definitely stands out, like with their BeoSound 8 iPad speaker dock. While the first impression of the BeoLit 12 does not scream Bang & Olufsen, the more I see of the design and the speaker the more I like it. It oozes quality, as is to be expected from B&O, and importantly, they have packed some quality audio on the inside.
The Beolit 12 is a 2.1 speaker system with 2×2-inch tweeters and a 4-inch woofer, all supported by a Class D digital amplifier totaling 120W of power output, so plenty of punch to keep the party going, wherever you decide to take the speaker with you. Yes, it can run on battery power, which provides you with 8-hours of wired playtime or 4-hours when using AirPlay streaming from your iOS device (or other AirPlay compatible players).
We are always excited to see high-end AirPlay speakers entering the market, and having B&O joining fellow Danish audio manufacturer Libratone, which has already delivered their first two AirPlay speakers in the high-end Libratone Live and Libratone Lounge, brings a sense of the AirPlay market growing up.
I hope to be back with a hands-on review of the B&O Beolit 12 Airplay speaker in the near future.
