Apple Tablet – iTablet – iProd – Apple Slate? Rumour says; not this year

Is anyone else having trouble keeping on top of the possible names for the much rumored large touchscreen, overgrown iPod Touch/iPhone solution from Apple these days? As the rumor mill continues around the Apple Tablet / iTablet / iProd / Apple Slate one thing seems more and more certain; it is not likely to happen this year.

Apple Tablet illustration from iPhoneBlogIt is probably not a secret anymore that Apple is working on something big, although exactly what is just speculations at this stage. However more and more hints and accidental word drops from sources close to Apple seems to indicate that the Apple Tablet rumors surfacing earlier this year is not that farfetched, although we are not likely to see it released this side of new year. According to a Gizmodo article, Apple VP Phil Schiller has made it clear that there will be no new product releases before new year from Apple, and what we have now will be their line-up for the Christmas shopping season – which to be fair is a pretty strong line-up.

The latest to “misspeak” is the Executive Editor at the New York Times, Bill Keller, which according to TheiPhoneBlog happen to mention something referred to as the Apple Slate while taking about the challenges of print media in taking advantage of new media, including iPhone Apps and the Apple Slate, which is likely to be the same as the Apple Tablet. Now what we don’t know is if this was just speculations from Mr Keller, or if the New York Times are being kept in the loop by Apple on their important new development that more and more people seem to think will revolutionize the media world.

On the other side of the world Apple seem to have gone one step further in confirming that the Apple Tablet is imminent, as according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Apple has been doing the media rounds in Australia to drum up interest and business for the upcoming new product. The device, whether it will be called Apple Tablet, iTablet, iProd, or Apple Slate, is said to be an over-sized iPhone that is small enough to carry in the handbag, but too big for most pockets, and that the device will be targeted toward users that are looking for a new way to surf the web, watch movies, read books, and of course, newspapers.

It seems no matter how much Apple tries to gag the rumors, more and more leaks are coming through, leading to increased expectations from every statement coming from the Apple camp, perhaps forcing their hand in making an official announcement with a release date in the coming months for this new touchscreen device.

So should the Apple Tablet / Slate be the dream device you have been waiting for, you might want to take it easy on the Christmas spend this year, and be ready for a 2010 likely announcement. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.

Imagin if it would be a type of touch screen ebook AND a computer! That would be awsome! It’s now only a bunch of rumors and ideas in our heads, but it might be the gadget of tomorrow. We just have to wait and see.

(P.S. I think it will be called the apple ‘iPad’ or ‘MacBook touch’)
