Apple and their iPhone manufacturers out east are busy these days as reports indicate that Apple have placed orders of up to 56 million units of the popular smartphone models for second half of 2011.
The growth in sales of the iPhone has been impressive for a while, with the fiscal third quarter of this year showing record sales above 20 million iPhones. Combine that will the quarter before and the new predicted shipments for the second half of the year, Apple could well see close to 100 million units sold by the end of 2011, numbers that i’m sure will sound nice to all investors out there.
Included in those order reports are 26 million units of the rumored iPhone 5 and possibly other new iPhone models, such as the rumored lower cost iPhone 4S targeting the prepaid market around the world.
The 100 million unit target for this year could however be just the beginning for Apple, as i reported earlier in an insight article, Apple could be looking at over 150 million iPhones sold in 2012.
