The news is finally out that Apple has launched a replacement program for first generation iPod Nanos with a faulty battery that could overheat, so time to dig through old drawers and boxes in search of that old Nano as it could bag you a brand new one.
By launching this replacement program Apple has confirmed that a batch of first generation iPod Nanos that was produced between September 2005 and December 2006 could have a faulty battery that over time could result in overheating and therefore pose a safety risk. So if you are still rocking the old school Nano, or perhaps have one stashed away somewhere, then it is time to send it in to Apple and if it has the right serial number you could land yourself a brand new one.
Apple has posted information on their website about the procedure for the replacement program, which includes online ordering of replacement Nano and that you should receive your new unit in around 6 weeks, and a 90 day warranty that it will be free from defects.
