No for iPhone Nano as stand-in CEO Cook squashes rumours

Some online sources have today reported that the much rumoured iPhone Nano, one of the hottest rumours leading up to Christmas, has been effectively squashed following stand-in CEO Cook’s conference call to announce Apple’s quarterly results (Source: Reghardware.co.uk).

According to the source, stand-in Apple CEO Cook announced during the quarterly financial results conference call that Apple will not be operating in the “low end voice phone business”, a comment that can be interpreted to kill any speculation about a low priced iPhone Nano in the near future.

Although he did not use the words ‘iPhone’ or ‘Nano’ one can perhaps read between the lines of his statement that he was referring to the much rumoured iPhone Nano, a stripped down version of the iPhone 3G targeting lower end of the mobile phone market.

Following very strong performance from the iPhone over the last two quarters, where it has become the leading player in the US handset market, Cook also announced that Apple is not necessarily looking to be the leading handset in mobile phone marketplace, but rather that their objective is to create the best phone ever.
