The Pioneer X-SMC5-K slimline sound system is the big brother of the X-SMC3-K Airplay with the addition of bluetooth streaming and DVD/CD player that combined with the HDMI out allows you to play DVDs through the system to your television.
Design wise the X-SMC5-K looks pretty much identical to its little brother. The drivers are situated at each end of the unit (2×2) with a fairly large LCD display situated at the center of the unit along with the docking station at the base. Overall the unit looks high quality and with a stylish finish.
On the feature side Pioneer has crammed in a lot with this system. In addition to supporting Airplay streaming there is also support for DLNA v1.5 and bluetooth streaming, making it a good alternative for people without an iOS device as well. But this system is not all about streaming, there is also the physical docking station, USB port, FM radio, and internet radio to go along with the CD/DVD player, covering pretty much all modern sources of music. Other ports include 3.5mm jack in/out, HDMI out for DVD only, composite video out, ethernet connection, and WiFi support.
Power output of the Pioneer X-SMC5-K is at 20W x 20W (RMS) with dual full range 66mm drivers and dual 76mm passive radiators. In terms of actual sound performance i have not had a chance to test the system hands-on yet, but will be back with a full review.
