Pioneer has been one of the early adopters of Airplay for AV Receivers, but with the Pioneer X-SMC3-K they have embraced AirPlay streaming for the micro multi-use system as well.
Whilst the idea of AirPlay technology is so that you can avoid having to dock your iOS device to enjoy the music, there are times when a physical docking station also comes in handy, especially for charging your device as well while listening to your music. With the Pioneer XSMC3 micro system you get both and then some.
The Pioneer X-SMC3-K is a slim and fairly small micro system, in stylish black finish, and with a retractable docking station at the base. However the main idea for the system is streaming, and we are not talking AirPlay only as the system also supports DLNA v1.5, opening up for streaming from a myriad of other networked sources and devices. Add a bluetooth adapter and you can also enjoy bluetooth streaming. For a wired connection there is also a USB port for connecting other media players, and there is RCA video out support for displaying video on supported connected devices, the mandatory 3.5mm connection, and FM/Internet radio.
On the inside you will find 2 x 66mm full range drivers and 4 passive 76mm radiators, with a total power output of 40w (20w x 20w), which should be enough to provide a room filling sound. You can also buy more than one and create a multi-room wireless system for the house. In terms of sound performance, this product is yet to be reviewed so i can’t comment on actual sound performance. Will update with audio performance and rating once reviewed.
